Training

SmokeFree Knowsley provides a number of training packages for local organisations that are public facing or who would like to improve their workplace health culture.

Objectives across all training sessions   

  • Increase the knowledge of SmokeFree referral pathways  
  • Increase the knowledge of smoking cessation interventions  
  • Reduce the prevalence of smoking amongst adults and young people  
  • Promote healthy lifestyle choices   
  • Provide information regarding smoking cessation / behavioural support   
  • Provide education support for prevention of smoking and vaping across the life course

Some pre-planned bookable sessions are available through our Eventbrite, but we can also offer the following bespoke training packages to key partners:

Very brief advice (VBA+)

This interactive session is designed to empower staff to confidently approach conversations about quitting smoking while maintaining a non-confrontational approach, equipping team members with essential knowledge about tobacco and nicotine and their impacts on health, finances, and overall well-being. Participants will also gain insight into the Northwest Smokefree referral pathways and learn how to support individuals on their journey to a smokefree life.

Most suitable for those public facing who may refer into a smokefree service. 

Very brief advice for long-term conditions (VBA LTC)

An interactive session designed to educate participants about the long-term health risks associated with smoking, specifically focusing on the chronic disease outcomes that occur through longevity of tobacco use.

Most suitable for those who work with the public who have long-term health conditions allowing additional knowledge of the conditions to be passed on.  

Smokefree homes

This session is designed to educate attendees about the impact of mainstream and second-hand smoke in the home environment, focusing on the dangers of exposure for children and animals.

Most suitable for those who visit homes, e.g. social workers or housing agency staff.  

Therapy training

This is a series of informative sessions that upskill staff concerning the smoking aids available from each service to help people quit smoking or vaping. Most suitable for those who speak to the public frequently about lifestyle changes, specifically the options available to them when quitting smoking.  

Healthy conversations and motivational interviewing

This interactive session is available to assist stakeholder understanding in the art of communication, specifically the ability to apply the principles of healthy conversations within the community. Suitable for anyone who wants to understand the different ways we can communicate with each other, specifically about lifestyle changes. 

Vaping and young people

The escape the vape session focuses on educating young people (school-based) about nicotine addiction and healthy behaviour adoption. Most suitable for those who are working with young people either in schools or the community. 

Training Delivery

All training packages are individually customised based on stakeholder requirements and service specifications. Each of the training packages can be delivered as one of the following:  

  • Face-to-face delivery on site   
  • Online remote access (e.g. MS Teams) 
  • Recorded webinars   
  • E-learning via existing partners (e.g. NCSCT)
